Fiesta!

I finally had my 20th birthday party (12 days late) on Sunday night. It was a fiesta theme with my closest friends. My version of a fiesta wasn't that Tex Mex look with sombreros and cactus, but rather a more folksy, kitchy, Frieda Kahlo look. I did bright colors - which everyone was asked to wear, paper flowers, garlands, etc.

^^See how to make the paper flowers at this link. I made them all different sizes, shapes and colors, its a bit like making snowflakes. I used just tissue paper, not crepe paper and arranged them in vases.

^^We have a swing, so I sort of made into a "shrine" for a pinata with lights and store bought garlands all from Party City.

^^This was the invite. iIjust fringed 2 strips of tissue paper and glued them to the top of a yellow card stock card. I wrote fiesta on the front and the party details inside...

I purchased some of those Mexican religious candles and put them on the table for lighting... you know those ones I am talking about lol...

^^ The runner (as well as the drinking glasses) are from Crate and Barrel. I fabric glued rows of colorful pompom trim onto the bottom of my runner for some added flair.

^^ This was my "cake" which is actually Margarita Pie (the recipe is below). I know I am queen of cakes, but after all the fish/chicken soft tacos, salsas, quesos, and chips, we all needed something refreshing - in which this frozen pie sooo is!!! It has a delish pretzel crust that mimics the "salt" around the rim of a margarita.

Of course there was awsome indie "fiesta"music playing... songs like this and this

^^ This is the dress I wore. Its more aqua and gold in real life. I saw it in a boutique window in Charleston and fell in love. I love all the embroidery - very Mexican/fiesta/folksy, right? Its from French Connection.

The paper flowers also served as napkin rings

Bullseye!

When 75% of my closet is from Target, its a no brainer that I must post about the new Go International line there. Tracy Feith is the current designer, and although he may be less famous than the last Alexander McQueen, I find it more wearable. I love the feminine 50's 60's shapes and the festive embroidery and frills. the collection feels like a summer trip to Spain. I got the blue ruffle and white and black shift above - and cant wait to wear them, the quality of material is really rich! Tracy Feith is at Target from now till June 20th - GO to Target now!

Cute Crooners

What i look for in a guy is this: dork appeal, thick black rimmed glasses, brown hair, maybe some scruff, a "good nose", cool clothes, and musical/artistic talent. Have I found this kind of a guy yet? no - but I have seen some. These guys on this weeks playlist are both hot and musically gifted - they could serenade me anytime they want! This happens to be one of my favorite playlists for obvious reasons.

1. To Be Alone With You – Sufjan Stevens

I know he is married with kids, but he is still hot!

2. Never Think – Rob Pattinson
duh!

3. Use Somebody – Kings of Leon

Lead singer Caleb Followill - has the dreamiest blue eyes ever!

4. Play The Part – Little Joy

Fabrizio Moretti was the drummer of The Strokes and Little Joy is his side project - oh yea i love Italian/Greek men!

5. Ask Her to Dance – Coconut Records

Jason Schwartzman is the singer of this indie project - also Marie's husband ;)

6. And Then You – Greg Laswell

7. I Stand Corrected – Vampire Weekend

This Time Last Year...

... I was in Italy. Here are some pics from my disposable camera I finally got developed- love how they came out! They make it look like it was gloomy, but it was actually really sunny the whole time lol. I'm having serious Europe withdrawals - I must study abroad next year!

Are any of you going to Europe this summer?

Gone Green

^^glass bottles from Fredflare.com

Sometimes college turns kids into tree hugging hippies. Well, I didn't start dreading my hair but I did most definitely become more environmentally conscientious. My English class, centered around the subject of food shed light on many issues I really didn't know existed concerning organic farming and genetically modified food. I always ate what was given to me and never really thought how it got to my table or how it was grown. Being a college student eating in the cafeteria, it is hard to eat organic. Now knowing the facts about the food industry, for the future when I am making my own food I will try to buy as much local and organic food as possible. Not only organic food do I want to buy, but organic and vegan clothing too (which Stella McCartney does a fantastic job at). Accounts of the meat industry are quite disturbing, and although I love chicken too much to become a vegetarian, I feel that buying vegan clothes can act as a little helping hand. Everything goes hand in hand - from organic farming to charity- and it all effects the economy. It is the little habits we can all start to acquire to make a difference in our communities - recycling (its unreal how many plastic products can be recycles), buying vintage/organic, turning off the water when brushing your teeth or washing your face (it can save a few gallons), filling up your own reusable plastic water bottle, turning off the lights when you leave the room - all little, but meaningful steps you can take to help preserve our environment. Pretty soon the "Green Movement" will not be a trend or a new idea, but rather just everyone's way of life.

Stella McCartney clothes and heels - if only I could afford!/Tom's shoes - for every pair bought, a pair is given to a child in need

***there are so many other ways to help the environment - how do you go green?
