Grey Garden

Thanks to Cotton Candy's Whimsical Delights Blog - I have discovered the fabulous Tokyo Spring Fashion Week. Among its unique designers, I discovered a new favorite : Mayumi Sasaki for Lyrics M. The runway was all covered in moss and the girls looked like they were dressed to have a picnic in the English countryside. I loved the straw hats, faded colors, delicate fabrics and unique shapes. The collection also reminded me a LOT Marie Antoinette when she had built her village and spent her time frolicking around! Next spring, I'm thinking vintage straw hats, lace, khaki, and hippie-ish/English countryside touches.

Rag & Bone even caught onto the trend:

Also I read about this play in Teen Vogue and the poster captured my attention and reminds me of this look I'm talking about:

The Ghost That Carries ME Away...

If you love Garden State or other Zack Braff soundtracks, then you will love Searbear's debut disk, The Ghost That Carried Us Away. I love the violin and romantic feel to it, yet it sounds modern and mystical (not in a new age-y way! no!) - some even harvesty (love the odd adjectives?). It makes you wanna skip around or walk quietly through the woods at night. I recommend the ENTIRE CD - you wont be sorry!

and who could resist a band called Seabear - how cute, right?

**check out some of their songs on the music player

Oh and another thing! If you are a redhead, you will greatly appreciate this article @

The Chanel Couture Fall Fashion Show - Delicious!

Boys, Boys, Boys

So last week my top 10 songs were all girl names - and I did that item with each song. This week is all boys names, but unfortunately not many brands and designers name their women's clothing with men names (the Brian bag?... no). But anyways here is the list - all still good songs:

1. Alfie - Lily Allen
2. Billy Brown - Mika
3. Charlie - Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. David - Nellie McKay
5. Dudley - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
6. Gabriel - Lamb
7. James - Josh Rouse
8. Michael - Franz Ferdinand
9. Timothy - Jet
10. Willie - Cat Power

The Girls

So I was on a roll and look up a piece of clothing, shoe, or accessory to go with each of the songs this week. You know how designers and brands often name their pieces girl names (ex: Stam bag by Marc Jacobs), well I looked up a item to go with each girl name of this week's top 10 songs. The clothes aren't that unusual or anything, but I would wear all of them - they're kinda preppy (hesitant to use that word) and totally ready for fall. Enjoy!

1. Annie - Vanessa Carlton
"Annie Oakley Tote" - Anthropologie

2. Cecilia - Simon and Garfunkel

"Cecilia" top - J.Crew / "Cecilia" dress - Delias

3. Eleanor - Jet
"Eleanor" Keds

4. Jacqueline - Franz Ferdinand

5. Jenny - I'm From Barcelona

6. Jolene - Ray LaMontagne

Loving Life Under the Blacklight

Yesterday was like Christmas - the long awaited new Rilo Kiley CD came out. I was a little skeptical about their single "Moneymaker" because it didn't sound like them and I thought they were trying to go more mainstream. However, the rest of the CD is back to the way things were. They have a little different sound, but its still original. It sounds more like Jenny Lewis' solo project than it does the old Rilo Kiley - so you know it will be AMAZING. If you've never heard of Rilo Kiley, I would highly recommend this CD. The theme of the album is the club/dance floor (but NOT in the pop-Madonna way) - and it sounds a bit retro. It will definitely make you smile (the lyrics are sometimes funny) and wanna dance around in your underwear.

and did I mention that the plastic of the CD case is purple? yet another reason to check it out!

** I have some of the songs playing on the audio feature (my fav is Silver Lining!)

Think Pink

Here is a scene from my favorite movie, Funny Face (with Audrey Hepburn. Since Fuchsia seems to be one of the "it" colors for fall - I found this clip to be quite fitting. Remember - think pink!

Party into Fall

So I'm going to a surprise party for a girl on the dance team - its a sweet 16 bash at a yummy Italian restaurant all equipped with a dance floor for us to boogie (that is such a strange word). Its in 2 weeks, so I still have time to find a dress, but I was just looking online for some ideas. I don't want a summery looking dress, but I still want to be able to keep cool in it. I loved these dresses because they have fall colors, but the cut is still cool, so I wont be too hot - you kno? Hopefully I can find a dress this weekend - I'll post my results :)
#1-3: Dillards
#4 & #5: Nordstroms

A Very Fine Frenzy

If you love Coldplay, Aqualung, and The Fray, then you will love A Fine Frenzy. All male band it is not - it is the stage name of singer songwriter Alison Sudol. Her full length album One Cell in the Sea is absolutely heavenly. I recommend purchasing the whole album (its only $7.99 on itunes). My favorite song is "The Minnow and the Trout" but all the songs are just as lovely. They give you a serene, walking on the beach at dusk feel - and with school starting tomorrow, I want to have that mindset often. Below is her video for her single "Almost Lover" and I've put a few of her songs on my music player. Enjoy!

Almost Lover - A Fine Frenzy
